The Real Review

This year will mark the 18th vintage for Misha’s Vineyard with our first ‘trial’ vintage back in 2007 with just a small volume of Pinot Noir. We’ve been reviewing our journey and it’s satisfying to know that hard work pays off.

Bob Campbell ONZM MW does the NZ wine reviews for The Real Review, (www.therealreview.com) which has a scorecard for our winery which shows that 128 wines from Misha’s Vineyard have been reviewed over the years.

Of all the wines reviewed 92% of them have been awarded silver or gold rankings, and 40% are considered a “Top Rank” wine. Currently every wine in our current range of vintages is either a silver or gold rating and that list includes Cantata and Tempo Pinot Noir – our more ‘fruit forward’ styles which are focused in the on-premise and retail markets respectively.

We also have 6 wine varieties that have earned a Real Review Wine Classification, which recognises “the greatest wines of Australia and New Zealand with an outstanding track record of a decade or longer.” On that list we have the following:

4 wines with 1 Merit ranking – “Wines that reliably achieve gold and silver ribbons in recent vintages, with top vintages achieving 95 points or more.”

2 wines with a 2 Merit ranking – “Wines that achieve gold and high silver ribbons in recent vintages, with top vintages achieving 96 points or more.”

Olly Masters has been our winemaker for all 17 vintages and to say he’s doing a pretty good job, would be an understatement! Also all of our wines are from a single vineyard estate at Bendigo – a site that delivers amazing fruit for Pinot Noir, but also Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewurztraminer. We knew our site was special from the outset and it has certainly proven itself over the years.
