Kelley joined the Misha’s Vineyard team at the beginning of harvest 2017, and had to hit the ground running demonstrating she really is ‘calm under pressure’ and ‘detail oriented’! Her role is to manage viticulture and vineyard operations but Kelley has a background that covers many aspects of the wine business and brings a varied and comprehensive knowledge base to the team.
With a Bachelor of Science in Viticulture and Oenology (Honours) from the University of California, Davis, Kelley has gained experience working in winegrowing regions of California, Oregon, Burgundy, Australia and New Zealand. In addition to many years focussed on vineyard work managing vineyard crews and running operations, she also gained a lot of vintage experience in a variety of cellar, lab and winemaking roles. And rounding off her multi-dimensional skill set, Kelley is qualified Level II Certified Sommelier having trained with the Court of Master Sommeliers and has worked as Sommelier as well as a Wine Buyer in California.
Although it’s her first stint in Central Otago, Kelley is not new to New Zealand! She has held vineyard roles with Babich Wines in Auckland, Winegrowers of Ara in Marlborough, and has worked vintage with Man O-War Vineyard in Waiheke Island and Church Road Winery in Hawke’s Bay.
When not looking after the vines (or helping out in the Tasting Room), she’s either hiking, or discovering the wines of Central Otago.
