Bula. Welcome to Fiji – not just a tropical paradise of white-sand islands, spectacular coral reefs and gentle swaying palms but also a country with a vast array of hotels and resorts catering to rising tourist numbers and a growing sophistication in the resident population’s food and wine habits. A modest population of just 870,000 swells with another 675,000 tourists annually who, whilst perfecting their tans, choose to drink mostly Australian and New Zealand wines – hardly surprising given they represent 51% and 15% of tourists respectively.
Misha travels to Fiji (for work and pleasure) to understand what’s changed in the country in terms of its wine and food culture and talks to a fine wine distributor as well as the head of F&B operations for a large hotel to find out what’s hot in the tropics!
