Jayson Bryant’s Wine Adventures – 27 October

Misha’s Vineyard ‘The Gallery’ Gewurztraminer 2008. Posted: October 27, 2010 at 1:02 pm

The new kids on the block in Bendigo, Central Otago, have been ripping it up throughout the world promoting their wine. Misha and Andy Wilkinson conceived the idea of owning a vineyard and then started the search back in 2001. In 2004 they had found the perfect spot in Bendigo.

Bendigo, formerly a sheep station, has garned a reputation for great New Zealand Pinot Noir over the last decade. Set back from Tarras Cromwell road the site is 210-350 meters above sea level and runs down to lake Dunstan and farmed sustainably.

Now they make Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer, with Pinot Noir the most planted vine on the vineyard and 3 different tiers.

The Gewurztraminer was loaded with spicy pear and melon on the nose leading to a full rich fruited palate of spiced nashy pear and honey. Taut body with fine acid balance and off-dry nature of this wine makes this wine perfect for when accompanying Asian styled food or even dessert.

The last time I tasted this wine I found the alcohol to show through too much for me, but when chilled and in the right environment there was no evidence of heat.
